Emergency Schematic Blueprint

Emergency Schematic Blueprint

ESB

For many months, we here at KITT STILL ROCKS have been working to re-create one of the most iconic props from the series. Even though it was seen only once in the series (OK, well technically twice, if you count a background scene in “Voo Doo Knight”), it was one of the coolest pieces and something that the fans have been wanting for literally decades! That’s right! We are talking about the Emergency Schematic Blueprint, or ESB, from the season two premiere “Goliath.”

We first thought about re-creating the ESB way back in the mid-2000s. Back then, it was a lot harder to get the custom graphics we needed, and finding someone that could re-create the portfolio cover was a huge problem. Plus, we only have the DVDs to use as a reference. Earlier this year, we decided to give it another go. With advances in print-on-demand content and low volume custom portfolio runs, along with the release of the series on Blu Ray, it seemed that now was the time to make this happen!

In “Goliath,” Michael pulls the ESB out from under the dashboard of a very severely damaged KITT. Hoping to use the ESB to repair KITT enough to escape out of the desert, Michael uses the schematics inside to “jerry-rig” a ramjet. As a viewer, we only get to see a bit of the ESB – the cover, the first cover sheets of the inside, and a few other pages as Michael turns through it.

In approaching this re-creation, we decided to think a little like a propmaster, and a little like a fictitious Knight Industries employee. As such, the content inside our re-created ESB is a bit of both. We have some pages that show generalized tolerance charts, wiring diagrams and torque curves, and some material related to turbine engines and KITT’s functions. We want to make it clear that the content inside will not help you to repair a real 1982 Trans Am in any way! 🙂

We did our best to re-create the visible pages in the ESB as faithfully as possible. As Michael leafs through the book, we see pages in green, orange, blue, and white, and so our ESB has those same colors. It is details like this that we hope you will fully appreciate it once you have it in your hand!

The cover is faithful to the original, with the design silk-screened on the front. One detail that people often miss is the text along the bottom saying “Knight Industries Two Thousand.” We bet you didn’t see that on the show! Only the Blu Ray transfer allowed us to see the original ESB in such detail!

These will be a limited edition collectible so don’t miss out!
